The 13th Annual International Myeloma Workshop
Paris in the Spring...seems to be a huge draw...2500 delegates, including 2000 MDs from 67 countries, have convened here in Paris at the Carrousel du Louvre for the 13th Annual International Myeloma Workshop to examine the best abstracts chosen from over 550 submitted for this meeting. The organizing committee of Jean-Paul Fermand, Thierry Facon, and Philippe Moreau have pulled together an exciting week of expert presenters from around the world, promising “a compelling scientific program highlighting emerging advances in our understanding of the biology and treatment of myeloma disease”…and it looks like they will definitely keep that promise!
Hot topics include exploring the molecular pathways and genetics of multiple myeloma, examining bone disease and animal models, and debating the latest treatment strategies. On Wednesday and Thursday, all of the cooperative groups from around the world will discuss their rationales for the treatment of newly-diagnosed patients. Another session that will prove to be very interesting will examine the emergence of secondary malignancies after treatment…and after the FDA announcement last month, this will be one session to pay attention to!
This is building up to be a very exiting week...not to mention the private tour and welcome reception at the Musee du Louvre this evening!
